Poem for Treble Clef's contest

i wrote this poem when i was 11 and entered it in the Cornet Crazie's Treble Clef poem contest. hope you like it!

I’LL FIND A NEW LOVE
As I gaze
Upon the fish,
I remember
My only wish.
As they swim
To and fro,
I think about
Your radiant glow.
The way you laughed
At all my jokes;
Fighting back tears,
I try not to choke.

This aquarium
Holds so many memories;
From the sharks
To the sea anemones.
My open hand
Against the cool glass case,
Longing for
your warm embrace.
And as I sit here,
All alone,
I think about how
You didn’t answer your phone.

Now I realize
I should make a choice:
To wait so long
To hear your voice,
Or to go and find
A different path;
Find a new love.
You do the math.

Visiters and a Story

today at school we had a Mass in the gym, and the man who did the homily was a pastor visiting Ohio from Warsaw, Poland. he told us all about his son, and how mcdonalds, burger king, and kfc were 'trash food'. oh, how i love mistranslations. he was really cool though, and in religion class we are making posters based on his main message: be true to yourself', themed around the quote that God doesnt make junk. mine will me beast, trust me.

The girl whizzed down the cemented hill without a care in the world, with the promise of serenity at the bottom. She was almost there, so close, and Smack. She could taste the salty, gravelly blood in her mouth, feel the gritty, stinging gash on her chin. Her hair was matted with blood and pebbles. Then she turned her head slighty, and saw it, her arm, bent and curving like a country lane. Everything felt numb. Her vision fogged, and she started to cry out. But no one heard her. They were busy enjoying the serene peacefulness of the day. She cried until they found her, lying face-down in a pool of thick red liquid. She wimpered until she heard the sirens. After they lifted her into the brilliant red ambulance, she could feel the immense pain. It was pulsing through her like an unwelcomed demon inside her. She wanted to be free, free of the pain, free of the demented arm. But she knew she wouldn't be. She just layed and waited for someone to ask her if she was alright.

^^ THat actually happened to me and it was one of the scariest moments of my life.

my sister just fed my 9-pound chihuahua a whole swedish fish. shes going to town

Outlet to my Soul

These are the times I like: getting sick from chocolate ice cream, watching old movies, laughing and dancing in an ice cream parade. Throwing imaginary confetti in the air. Humming raggae tunes and telling stories. It reminds me of our house back in M-town. Oh, I miss it so.

Author of the Week

I think i might start doing authors of the week. it may not stick, but i'll give it a try.

the week of: 10/19/09
Cristina Garcia
This Cuban-born novelist and journalist was born on July 4, 1958. Of her few books, such as Dreaming in Cuban, the Augero Sisters, Monkey Hunting, and A Handbook to Luck, I Wanna Be You Shoebox is my favorite.
Cristina Garcia was born in Havanna to a Cuban mother and a Guatemalan father. In 1961, her family was one of the first to flee Cuba when Fidel Castro came to power. She moved to New York and grew up in Queens, Brooklyn Heights, and Manhattan. She bounced between college and journalism, and in 1990 she ended her job at Time Magazine to write novels full-time. Her first novel, Dreaming in Cuban, was published in 1992. Garcia currently lives in Los Angeles with her daughter Pilar.

Sometimes it tears me up to look out the window... Even out here in the great American suburbs. It's the little things that get to me. Those wildflowers there coming up in your grandmother's rock garden, beating the odds to warm themselves in the sun. Or the birds fighting to get past the netting on her pear trees. Or the sky looking so big and bruised, you think it'll never heal. Sometimes i gotta turn away from so much life because I'll miss it too much.
--I Wanna Be Your Shoebox--

any suggestions for next week's writer?

the daily grind of middle school life

so todays lunch buzz was our lame-o math test that made NO sense whatsoever. mr. C is a terrible horrible iky explainerman. he didnt teach us half the stuff on the quiz, and then refused to answer our questions. WACKK.
in other news: at recess katie and i mapped out our whole leprechaun community that we are going to build once we get a petition from the M-town Council to tear down the fence by the blacktop. we cant even pick clovers): oh wellz. the clover lovers society will live on! (theyre my favorite weed=)
when i told abbie she could join if she went through the intense screening, katie oked it. then after abbie did a dance, i said "Pas-!" and katie yelled "FAILED!" and then her and gracie tormented abbie all through band class. me and meghan were discussing it at science. they dont even give abbie a chance! shes so nice and funny, but they just put her down all the time.
hmm. i recently found out my dads car got broken into 2 days ago!! and my friend down the street said her car was broken into also. they only took loose change, though, even though my dad had a $50 magellan gps in his car, and my friend had a $50 bag of dog found in her trunk. they arent smart robbers.

so.... how was your day? :D

writing out of shear boredom

the Loner trudged through the whispering Forest. the leaves crunched beneath his feet; birds chirped solemnly. squirrels gathered nuts without a word. the only man-made item in site, a pealing, decrepit bird house mounted to a wide oak, a lasting testament to the Forest creatures. a clutch of small robin's eggs lay still inside the dark hole. the mother alights off her branch to perch on the home. the animals trusted the Loner, but they could sense that he was not same. he didn't walk with the same idleness, the same leisurely, wistful stride. he had changed in the days he spent in town. he had abandoned them, he is a traitor. he didn't even stop to chew on clovers or check on the Sprites or Pixies in the underbrush. he just strode onward, ignoring. the trees murmured disappointment, the wind whistled its pain. the Forest lay, bruised, for many years to come. this was the Loner's last walk.

Braces, etc.

I got my braces yesturday(: they didnt hurt as much as i thought they would, they're just a little sore. i like them. they are teal and cute.

The only sound was her footsteps as she walked down the hard path. She didn't belong here; with her stiletos and minidress. She walked right past the old man, who shot her a toothless grin. She wrapped her coat more tightly around her. Someone gave a long, low wolf whistle. She shivered. This alley was for the vagabond, those who didn't have, or need a home. But she had business here today. The early morning air felt tight. She thought about turning back, but she couldn't. This was too important. She felt the gun weighing heavily in her purse. She knew what she had to do.

ORF!

... and by ORF i mean the Ohio Renaisance Festival! yayyy.... it was so much fun! i really wanted to get glow in the dark cat ears and a panpipe so i could prance around in the dark playing melancholy tunes, but THAT didn't happen. but i did get a magic wand and a pinkie ring(: and on the way home, there was a perfect slice of rainbow hanging high in the sky in a patch of cloudless blue flawlessness.
Question: What should i be for halloween, guys?! i was thinking either a) the mad hatter [alice in wonderland], b) a punky/edgy ballerina, or c) any idea you come up with!

random facts: i collect business cards. TAKE THAT, SOCIETY!
beauty is in the eye of the canmera lense.

if God could walk the Earth, he would find it a far different planet than when it was Created. but He would see that some things stayed Pure; the majestic mountains, rolling hills, crashing waterfalls, and babbling streams. He would see that the trees still whispered dreams, and that the animals still lived with hidden wisdom, the owl's quiet observation, the deer's silent wandering, and Creation's calm waiting... the only difference, the corruption of Man.

i need a new word to use instead of 'amazing' and 'awesome'. i use these words far too much. any synonyms would be great, just comment!

curse you, internet!

every 5 seconds when i click something, a stupid popup about random things pops up! one was about belly fat, another about cheap motels (why would i need a cheap motel?! [dont answer that...]), and another for some sexsite where you create a profile and meet people interested in sex with random strangers!

i cried today

today i found out that my grandma had a heart attack in july and no one told me. shes still alive, but shes been on an oxygen tank for a while. she has cardio-empathy or cardio-mapathy or something. i really want to know about her life, because what my mom has told me it was amazing, but she only speaks Croatian, with a few english phrases like 'i love you.' oh darn im starting to tear up....

its funny, i started this blog not expecting to write about much, or even to have followers. but now i understand why people say it is easier to tell your biggest secrets and fears to complete strangers. because they wont judge you. they dont know your life, and you might discover you have something in common that you would never know about them if u hadnt shared your innermost feelings.
Now im going to work on my novel.

you'll notice that i cry alot :\

Chapter One.
The ______s were the most powerful, most esurient family in Chicago. Samuel ______ I owned the LaSalle Hotel, but disappeared mysteriously after the LaSalle Hotel fire in 1946. Since he was presumed dead, his son, Samuel _____ II inherited a large estate and millions of dollars. Samuel II was the greediest of them all, and nearly doubled the _____ fortune. Exactly twenty years later, Sammy II disappeared, also under mysterious circumstances. So, the Great _____ Inheritance went to Samuel III. Samuel III fell off the radar five years after his father’s disappearance, soon after marrying wife, Claire LaRue. He insisted she not change her name for reasons unknown. He wouldn’t even tell his own daughter.

Chapter Two.
Alexis stepped out of Walter Rothafel Prep and into the brisk Chicago wind. Her backpack weighed her down heavily as she hopped down the steps and onto the hard pavement.
“Whoa! What’s all that?” her best friend Saul laughed as he took her backpack off her tired shoulders.
“Research. For out family history projects,” she said nonchalantly, “Give me my backpack!”
Saul had started running down the busy sidewalk, bumping the overstuffed bag into innocent passersby, mumbling “Sorry!” and laughing until he couldn’t go on any longer. Alexis had caught up by now, and they were fighting over the backpack, neither trying very hard to gain control.
“Ok, you win,” Saul said finally, gasping for air. “Oh shit, I’m late. See you tomorrow, Rich.” Alexis smiled at the nickname, and waved down the street after him.

ˆ

“This family’s history isn’t very interesting. Why would you want to do a report on it?” her father spat when Alexis told him about her project. “Why don’t you write about your mother’s?”
“Well, since I know your grandfather owned that hotel that burnt down, you’d probably be more interesting, wouldn’t you?” she said politely. Alexis was good at many things, including being very persuasive.
But her father wasn’t buying. “My father and grandfather were both businessmen. There is nothing interesting about BUSINESSMEN.”
“What business were they in, Father?” she smiled sweetly.
“My father was a banker, and his owned a hotel,” he muttered. She sensed he was cracking down. A few more questions, and….
“Samuel!” her mother called from the parlor. A second later she popped in and held out the phone. “Oh, there you are, Samuel. You have a call.” Her mother was a small woman, mid-forties, slightly creased, but always poised. Today she wore a light yellow suit and raspberry lipstain smeared across her taut mouth. Something’s wrong, Alexis thought as she watched her mother walk briskly out of the room. She’s worried.
“Hello?” her father said calmly, but there was a hint of… apprehension. “I’d rather not speak of that,” he whispered, shielding the phone with his hand. Alexis peered curiously, worried, at the phone. He shot her a glance and went into his office, shutting the door behind him.

New story

here's what i have so far:

The ______s were the most powerful, most esurient family in Chicago. Samuel ______ I owned the LaSalle Hotel, but disappeared mysteriously after the LaSalle Hotel fire in 1946. Since he was presumed dead, his son, Samuel _____ II inherited a large estate and millions of dollars. Exactly 20 years later, Sammy II disappeared also, under mysterious circumstances. So, the Great _____ Inheritance went to Samuel _____ III.

a few things id like to know:
1. some suggestions for the last name. i was thinking Ashworth?
2. where do i go from here?

i know what i want to story to be about, a plucky aspriring detective who is Sam III's daughter, wants to learn about her family's mysterious past, discovers what Really happened to her grand/great-grandfather. Mystery. many dangers, maybe- killed by the mob, went into hiding because of a secret, or.... ?

I Wanna Be Your Shoebox

this book is amazing. it got me to tears in chapter one. one of the best i've ever read. im only on chapter 3, but i can already tell that i love it! ive been looking for a book like this for a long time, and i almost didnt get it when i was at the book shop. but im so glad i did! ((squeal))

chapter 1

I woke up to the bright sun streaming in throuh the blinds. It was one of those mornings that aren't really worth it. I groaned and turned to face my alarm clock. 7:15 it shouted at me in blinding green numbers. I squinted at the bright neon and shoved Sandy off my pillow. The Chihuahua had nestled herself right by my head.
I rolled out of bed and turned on my favorite All-American Rejects CD before I stood in front of my mirror. My hair had worked its way into a side-ponytail, even though I sleep sprawled on my stomach.
I was wearing my favorite pajamas, the only ones I hope I’m wearing if someone from school randomly decides to stop by one morning, a white tee shirt with giant multicolored clown fish from an aquarium in New Orleans and baggy red pants with white reindeer leaping across them.
My uniform sits neatly folded on my desk chair, untouched. A drab cotton death-trap, I like to think of it. It’s not too bad, just very stuffy and stiff. A white polo and a red, white, blue and green plaid pleated skirt.

Just as ‘Gives You Hell’ comes on, my mom knocks on my door to see if I’m awake. I ignore her.
Apparently, she doesn’t understand that if I was asleep, my CD player wouldn’t be on, and she opens the door just as I pull on the polo.
“Pancakes, or bagel?” she asks.
“Pancakes. With extra chocolate chips.” I stroll across the room to get to the bathroom when my sister rushes in before I even get to the hall. I sigh and go downstairs to see if my dad is up, not bothering to shut my door.
“Don’t forget, you have soccer practice after school, “Dad says as I grab a fresh pancake, hot off the stove. ‘Sunshine’ wafts down into the kitchen. I start singing along under my breath when I hear Cailin shut her door, signaling my turn for the bathroom.
“Better get up there before she changes her mind,” Dad says, not bothering to look up from his paper and OJ. Arsenal suffered an exceptionally bad loss last night, so he’s a little off.

I brush my hair and wash my face in a daze as I think about today. A math test, vocab quiz, crispito day at lunch. I leap onto my bed to reach over and turn off the ‘Rejects. 7:45 says the clock. Fifteen minutes.
I pull on my black converse and grab another pancake before rushing out the door, almost forgetting my bag and purse.
Dad’s waiting in the truck; this is routine. Always waiting on me, I think as I hop into the back seat. I’m 12 years old and still not allowed in the front seat.
Sure, I’m only 5 foot, but Gracie’s 4’8 and she sits in front. Life’s hard.

Dad drops me off and I run towards the doors. “Forgot your purse!” he yells after me. Great. I slide into homeroom just as the late bell rings. 8:07. better than yesterday.

I'll post a chapter a day if i can!

Duh nuh NUHH

Cry

a poem i wrote called cry.

I cry and cry
until the tears won't come anymore.
I cry for my sorrows,
everyone's sorrows,
the world's sorrows.
I cry for good things
that are over.
I cry for the happy things.
I cry for the way
my crush looks at me
with those amazing blue eyes,
that shaggy blonde hair,
laughing,
dancing at the sight of me,
at my words.
I cry for how I'm broken,
deep, deep down.
I cry Alone.
With no one to hold me.
